Fab Four forever
Justin Moyer's column “It's time to let The Beatles be” (July 28 and TribLIVE.com) fails to understand why the culture is stuck in a Fab Four rut. The answer is simple: love. We baby boomers love our Beatles. While many other groups were equally as good and possibly at times even better, no one holds affection like the Fab Four.
Those of us old enough to have experienced Beatlemania from the beginning were not just teens exposed to a great group with great records, but actually saw firsthand the Hiroshima bomb of pop music and culture. The Beatles captured our hearts and imaginations, and yes, those waves crashed over us and are still crashing to this day.
Moyers states that the Fab Four “just weren't built for these times.” I had a young co-worker who loved The Beatles. Her favorite song was “Day Tripper.” She was born in 1982, 17 years after the song was released. I don't believe this is an uncommon experience for many of the younger fans. After five decades, it's time to let The Beatles go? I say, what's the rush?
