About 50 Farmers & Merchants Bank customers have reported since Sunday that they've received automated phone calls seeking account information.
Bank marketing director Laura Meixelberger said customers have been receiving calls on their cell phones since around 10 p.m. Sunday.
"It's basically an automated voice," Meixelberger said.
The calls are stating that the customer's debit card has been deactivated or expired and asks for account and pin numbers, she said. The bank's name stated in the calls varies as does the phone number — ranging from a 1-800 number or 702 area code.
"The number's always different," Meixelberger said. "We haven't had anyone lose anything."
The bank warns the public not to give out personal account information over the phone or through e-mail or text messages. Also, scammers may suggest consequences if information isn't divulged or verified, but banking customers should not be intimidated.
"A financial institution will never contact you asking for personal information," Meixelberger said. "They already have it in their records."
Anyone receiving the calls is asked to call F&M at 724-543-1125.
