Months after disciplining a handful of employees caught misappropriating used appliances, the Fayette County Housing Authority is looking at a policy change aimed at preventing such behavior in the future. Board members reviewed the authority’s property control policy Thursday. The last version of the policy was approved in 1999. A new version likely will be voted on at the end of the month. One provision drafted last night prohibits employees from receiving or taking any “fixed asset, materials or equipment regardless of circumstance or condition.” Two employees were fired and three were suspended in February after a five-month investigation showed that appliances cleared out of housing units during demolition projects had been taken. The two fired employees, mechanic Tom DiDominic and Director of Housing Management Dennis Barclay, have since been rehired. Neither received pay for their lost time. In other business, the authority approved more than $2 million in project contracts. The largest was awarded to Masscon Inc., of Uniontown, for contracting work at the authority’s East View Terrace and scattered sites locations. The authority agreed to pay Masscon $1.343 million for the work.
