Fayette County controller to resign
Fayette County's controller has announced he will resign to take a position with the municipality of Monroeville.
In a letter addressed to Fayette County commissioners on Friday, Sean Lally announced his intention to leave, effective May 30.
“It is with some trepidation that I am writing this letter of resignation to you, the board of commissioners,” Lally wrote in the letter. “I leave with some remorse, but I welcome using the skills and abilities that this office has provided to move forward in my career.”
Lally has been controller for 6 1⁄2 years.
Contacted after he submitted the letter, Lally said he has accepted a position as Monroeville's chief financial officer.
“I am so thankful for those that supported me, but it is time to move on,” Lally said.
Timothy Little, Monroeville's manager, could not be reached for comment. Mayor Gregory Erosenko was unavailable.
Lally asked commissioners to appoint his chief deputy, Jeanine Wrona, to the elected position.
Larry Blosser, election bureau director, was not certain Friday who has the authority to appoint an acting controller. He said whoever is appointed likely will fill out Lally's term, which expires in January 2016.
Lally noted a number of accomplishments during his work as controller, including the exploration of various financing options for a new, $32 million jail.
“Our Justice and Rehabilitation Center is not only needed, it is the only way to stop the economic bleeding that this county faces,” Lally said in his resignation letter. “Months of studying, planning and working as a team have brought us to a point where my departure is filled with a sense of pride and a lasting legacy.”
Commissioner Chairman Al Ambrosini said Lally's departure is a “huge loss” for the county.
“Sean was great to work with,” Ambrosini said. “He's a very intelligent young man with a lot of energy. He's capable of critical thinking and is very analytical.”
Commissioner Vince Zapotosky wished Lally well in his future endeavors.
“He's a bright, energetic controller,” Zapotosky said. “His attention to detail was superb. He was great to work with.”
Commissioner Angela Zimmerlink declined to comment.
