Fayette man killed in Saturday motorcycle crash
A Fayette County man was killed Saturday after the motorcycle he was riding struck another vehicle, state police said.
Donald B. Myers, 56, of Champion died at 5:55 p.m.at the scene of the crash on County Line Road in Saltlick Township, Fayette County, said Uniontown state police Trooper Craig M. Soltis.
The accident occurred at 3:56 p.m. after Robert J. Wilker, 62, also of Champion, turned left onto County Line Road in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado from his private driveway and headed west, Soltis said.
Wilker failed to observe Myers driving his Suzuki motorcycle east on the road at an extremely high rate of speed, Soltis said. Myers’ motorcycle then struck Wilker’s truck near the driver’s side door in the road’s eastbound lane, Soltis said.
Impact caused tossed Myers over Wilker’s truck and he hit the pavement in the eastbound lane, Soltis said. Myers then rolled about 117 feet and came to rest on the southerly edge of the road facing east.
Myers was wearing a helmet and Wilker was wearing a seatbelt, Soltis said.
Fire crews from Saltlick, Chestnut Ridge and Normalville, along with Mutual Aid Ambulance, assist with traffic control as the road was temporarily closed, Soltis said.
