FedEx Corp. plans to expand its local FedEx Smart Post operation and move from Leetsdale to the Clinton Commerce Park in Findlay.
"We signed a five-year lease, effective Sept. 1, 2009, for the property," said David Westrick, a FedEx spokesman.
The 165 full- and part-time employees now at the Leetsdale Industrial Park will relocate to the new 205,000 square foot building with plans to eventually hire additional employees in the future as business grows, he said.
The park is being developed by the Buncher Co. of Pittsburgh, which previously started the new space last fall as a "speculative building" by doing the foundation and installing pilings.
"What FedEx Smart Post does in transport high volume, low-weight products that have been ordered by consumers, often from catalogs or from the Internet, eventually to the post office and the U.S. Postal Service delivers the product to the consumer," Westrick said.
FedEx charges the company providing the product for the service. The company would include the shipping and handling cost to the consumer, or in some case, paid the amount itself, he said.
Construction of FedEx's new building at Clinton should already be under way, Buncher said.
That would create considerable construction activity at the site. Work is already under way to construct two new buildings, containing 200,000 square feet or more, for Flabeg Corp., a German-owned glass and mirror manufacturer which would manufacture there glass and mirror components for solar panels in large-scale solar power plants.
