I was appalled and saddened to read the news story “South Park library hosts ‘Fifty Shades' event” . What a colossal and irresponsible waste of a community resource. “Fifty Shades of Grey” is not a romantic Valentine's Day romp. It is a twisted, disturbing, misogynistic glorification of stalking, violence, manipulation and physical and emotional abuse. The film is being boycotted by women's groups opposed to domestic violence and many critics assert it actually condones rape. One reviewer called it a “stalker's handbook.”

Would any woman attending this library event really want her daughter to be in a relationship like this? It is a travesty that a public library will be wasting precious resources on this drivel, even making lingerie and massage oil available for purchase during the event. Really? It merely adds insult to injury to note that the book is terribly written and a pathetic excuse for “literature.” Shame, shame on you, South Park Township Public Library.
