A morning fire destroyed a Squirrel Hill business and closed the main thoroughfare through the neighborhood's main business district.

The fire in the 5800 block Forbes Avenue was reported at 9:18 a.m., emergency dispatch said.

Remnants of a futon could be seen through what was the front of Levin's Sleep Center, which is located below the Thai restaurant Bangkok Balcony.

The extent of the damage was not immediately known.

An owner of Little's Shoes, located in the same block, said he called 911.

Forbes Avenue was closed between Murray and Shady avenues.
