Australian firefighters struggled Saturday to contain a second bushfire on the outskirts of Perth, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The first blaze has already burned some 67,000 acres near the capital of Western Australia on the Indian Ocean coast and covered the city with a blanket of haze for several days.

A second fire has erupted north of the city and forced officials to divert personnel and aircraft bearing fire retardants from the initial fire.
