PLUMCREEK -- Five members of a family were taken to the hospital after their car crashed head-on with a flat-bed trailer truck along Route 422 near the village of Whitesburg just after 7:30 p.m. yesterday.
State police identified the operator of the car as Lisa Miller, 22 of Adrian. Clayton Miller, 24, was a front seat passenger and their three children, ages 3, 2 and 1 were in the back seat, police said.
According to Armstrong 911 operators, the two adults were transported by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. Police said they both had moderate injuries.
The children were taken to Armstrong County Memorial Hospital by ambulance. They had minor injuries, police said.
The truck had earlier dropped off a load of logs in Apollo and was heading home empty to Vancouver, Canada traveling west on Route 422, according to the driver, Charles Ellis, 40, of British Columbia.
Ellis and a passenger in the truck, Rosalie Croy, 45, were examined at the crash scene by emergency medical personnel. Croy had minor injuries. Ellis and the couple's dog were not found to be injured.
According to Croy, their truck was following a car which made a left turn into the parking lot of Blaney's convenience store in front of the car that they hit head-on. The Miller's car hit its brakes and slid into their lane, she said.
"Charlie ran the truck into a ditch to try to keep from crashing," Croy said.
Kittanning Township Fire Department responded at 7:38 p.m., Elderton Fire Department was called at 7:39 p.m. and Manor Township Fire Department was called to set up a landing zone at 7:42 p.m., according to Armstrong 911.
