STARS IN THEIR EYES Artist-musician-engineer performer and curator Dan Wilcox and new media sculptor Anika Hirt were amongst those testing atmospheric limits at the North Side's Neu Kirche Contemporary Art Center on August 23. The event, dubbed, 'Space Art: An Evening in the Stars,' explored the realities of life in space, including how one can make art for aliens.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES Carol Kinkela (far right) of Carabella welcomed a full house including Dotty Bechtol, Bill Crawford, and Sally Wiggin to the 10th annual Carabella Fashion Show held outside of her Oakmont store on August 28. The event, which is to be her swan song, was originally created with the sole purpose of raising funds to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease. Kinkela’s mother was affected by the disease, passing away a month before the first event. All proceeds benefitted the Alzheimer Association’s Greater Pennsylvania chapter. TASTE TEST Ricky and Michelle Kirsop, who helped found Savor Pittsburgh, attended the 10th annual food fest at Stage AE on the North Shore on August 27. With area eateries tempting the taste buds of 1,500, 'Best Appetizer' was snagged by Aramark Heinz Field with their late summer salad and 'Best Entree,' went to Eddie Merlot with their Confit Shortrib, Mushroom Gnocchi, Truffle Churri. Meanwhile, Braddocks won the 'People's Choice,' and Savoy whipped up the 'Dish of the Year.' More than $85K was raised for the Magee-Womens Research Institute and Foundation.
