Flatwoods VFD Auxiliary plans flea market, bake sale

The Flatwood Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary will hold a flea market and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Hoagies will also be sold that day.

Don't forget folks, the Dawson Volunteer Fire Co. is holding its cash bash beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday. There are still a few tickets remaining, so contact your favorite Dawson firefighter or stop by the fire hall during one of the fundraising events.

DL&V Volunteer Fire Department will hold a gun bash on May 7, beginning at 11 a.m. There are still a number of tickets available, so see one of the firefighters for a ticket. Tickets are $15 each and each ticket gives you the opportunity to win one of a number of prizes of either cash or a firearm. Meal and beverages are included in the price of the ticket.

The Dawson Volunteer Fire Co. is seeking members to form an auxiliary. Men or women are invited to join. The only requirement is that you have a real interest in helping the fire company remain successful and continue to expand. If you're interested, call the fire company at 724-529-2340 or stop by during one of the fundraising events.

The organization planning all of the festivities for the centennial celebration for the borough of Vanderbilt and the 75th anniversary of the DL&V Fire Department will meet at 7 p.m. May 2 on the second floor of the Vanderbilt Borough Building, Anyone interested in becoming a part of this group is asked to attend this meeting. The Greater Tri-Town Area Historical Society, the Dawson Volunteer Fire Co. and the DL&V Fire Department will all meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the DL&V fire station to discuss safety and traffic control for the upcoming Tri-Town Historical Society's annual Homecoming Days to be held the weekend of June 4 and 5. All area firefighters are urged to attend if possible.

Just a reminder that on Saturday the Brownfield Community Center, located at 291 Banning Road in Lower Tyrone Township, will hold its monthly country breakfast from 9-11 a.m. On the menu is pancakes, sausage, home fries, juice and coffee. Admission is $4 for adults; $2 for kids under age 12.

The Brownfield Community Public Library will hold its annual flea market to help raise funds for the library from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. If you have something that you would care to donate to this event, you can drop it off at the community center during normal hours, before Saturday.

A very happy birthday is wished for Ashley Lovasz, who celebrates her 16th birthday this week. We hope that all of your dreams and wishes come true and we want you to know that we love you dearly. Love, Uncle Jim, Aunt Deb and Jimbo.

The Brownfield Community Center is currently planning a Mother's Day buffet to be held from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. May 8. Admission is $10 per adult or $5 per child. Reservations are suggested. To make your reservation, call the community center at 724-529-2930 or 724-529-7626.

On Sunday, The Dawson Grange No. 419 will host a Longaberger Basket bingo at the Brownfield Community Center to benefit the Community Grange Fair. Doors open at noon, bingo begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are limited. Sold in advance, they are $20; at the door, they are $25. There will be a concession available.

The Dawson Grange No. 419 will be hosting an Election Day Dinner at the Brownfield Community Center on May 17. The menu will be made available shortly.

The Dawson Volunteer Fire Co. will meet at 7 p.m. May 2 in the fire station. All members should plan to attend.
