Ford City Junior Senior High School students evacuated after bomb threat
FORD CITY — Police are investigating a bomb threat at Ford City Junior Senior High School that caused the evacuation of all students from the building on a cold, blustery morning.
According to a statement released via e-mail by Ford City police, the threat was made at 9:41 a.m. Monday. Police did not say how the threat was received at the school or the content of the threat. They declined to discuss whether there are any leads, adding they would release further information today.
Armstrong School Board President Rose Stitt said someone found a note in the building.
“We took the usual safety precautions,” Stitt said of the district’s protocol. She said the policy is for school officials to send parents a message explaining the incident but she did not know if that was done.
Students were sent to two locations in other parts of the borough.
Police and fire officials secured the area around the school and the school building while the school was searched by bomb-sniffing dogs from the Armstrong County District Attorney’s Office and the Pittsburgh Police Department.
After completion of the search, which uncovered no suspicious devices, students were cleared to return to the school, police said.
Officials in the district administration provided no information to reporters about the incident. No one returned repeated calls seeking information.
Stitt said students were dismissed for the day at the regular time and classes were expected to resume today. Scheduled after-school activities were conducted at the school yesterday.
State police, Ford City Fire Department and fire police assisted.
Ford City police are asking anyone with information to call 724-763-9024.
