KITTANNING -- Armstrong County planning department officials had some good news and some bad news Thursday about the Ford Street improvement project in Ford City.
The good news is there is a little more money for the project.
Assistant Planning Director Carmen Johnson said $1,373 of Community Development Block Grant money is being transferred from completed water line projects in Parks Township and Yatesboro to be added to the Ford Street brick paving and sidewalk and curb replacement project.
The Armstrong County commissioners approved transferring the funds at their public meeting Thursday.
The bad news is the project may not get done this year.
"It may have to wait to be done in the spring of 2008," Johnson said.
Johnson said that with the lateness of bidding the project, contractors might not want to start it this year. Good weather is needed for bricking the street and contractors could risk running into bad weather with a late start, she said.
Some Ford City council members recently insisted that if the project is bid in the next two weeks, it can and will be done this year. PennDOT and the borough's engineer have been working to complete the bid specifications.
"Possibly, if the bid specifications come back from PennDOT right away," Johnson said.
In other county business, the commissioners:
• Approved the agreement with the Petroleum Valley Regional Water Authority and the Bradys Bend Township Supervisors for the Village of Roseville Water Line Extension Project.
The commissioners also awarded the construction contract for the Roseville Water Line Extension Project to low bidder Mealy Excavating of Tionesta in the amount of $348,030.
"It came in under budget," Johnson said. "That will allow further extension. We can pick up a few more homes. It will also allow us to pay for lateral connections for lower income households."
• Ratified a labor contract with Service Employees International Union Local 668 for caseworkers and assessors employed by the county's Children, Youth and Family Services. The 3-year agreement runs from this past January through December, 2009.
• Approved the county's 2006 HOME grant contract with the state's Department of Community and Economic Development in the amount of $500,000 for its Housing Rehabilitation Program for Cadogan.
• Approved the cooperation agreement with the Parks Township Municipal Authority for the Parks-Bethel Water System Extension Project.
• Approved an extension of the contract time by two years for the Hyde Park Bridge Project.
