A Greenville man who previously spent more than a decade in federal prison for his role in a drug ring connected to 20 deaths is headed back to prison for a Mercer County bank robbery.
Donald P. Sunkin, 62, pleaded guilty in October to the Jan. 29, 2009, armed robbery of the Huntington National Bank in Pymatuning. U.S. District Judge Terrence McVerry sentenced Sunkin today to five years and three months in prison followed by three years of probation and ordered him to pay $2,597 in restitution.
Sunkin was partners with a Calgon chemist convicted in 1989 of manufacturing 3-methyl-fentanyl, commonly known as China White. The drug caused Allegheny County's biggest epidemic of opiate deaths, killing at least 20 people.
