Former coach to be arraigned July 22

SHARPSBURG: Gary Midock, the former high school and college soccer coach accused of indecent exposure and open lewdness, is scheduled for arraignment July 22 in Allegheny County Court.

Midock, 53, of River Oaks Drive, Aspinwall, waived his right to a preliminary hearing last Thursday before District Justice Elissa Lang.

Charges include open lewdness, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and harassment. On two occasions, Midock is accused of standing naked in his doorway and exposing himself to neighbors. On each occasion, he is accused of masturbating in plain view.

Midock appeared in court Thursday but did not speak to reporters.

The day before, Midock waived charges of open lewdness and indecent assault before Ross Township District Justice Richard Opiela for an October incident where he was accused of standing nude on a grassy hillside near Northway Mall along McKnight Road.

Midock previously served as head coach of girls soccer teams at Fox Chapel Area and Springdale high schools, where he was highly regarded.

He coached the Fox Chapel soccer youth program from 1986 to 1996 and was a consultant to the board afterward.

At La Roche College in the North Hills, Midock was an assistant girls soccer coach last fall before resigning. Midock also worked as head coach for the girls Olympic Development Program of the Pennsylvania West State Soccer Association, and as an assistant and head coach with the Pittsburgh Strikers from 1991 to 1999.

Aspinwall Police Chief Chuck Clouse said neighbors of Midock had complained to police at least six times over the spring after allegedly seeing him nude and touching himself in a window of his residence.

Police received calls on March 21 and again on March 24 from at least three of Midock's neighbors who complained they felt Midock was watching them as they left their apartments. One complainant told police that Midock began touching himself as she walked from her home to her car.

On March 24, Patrolman Jim Peterson responded to complaint calls and said he witnessed Midock masturbating in the doorway of his home.

A court date will be scheduled at the July arraignment.
