KITTANNING: Armstrong County will host tours of its former jail Saturday.

The building on Market Street in Kittanning served as the jail from 1873 until 2003. It was built of sandstone quarried from Catfish Hollow above East Brady in Clarion County and floated down the Allegheny River.

While the county built its new jail, commissioners said they received many requests from people who wanted to tour the historic structure.

The old jail will be open for tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Visitors should remember that the building is not accessible for disabled people and does not have elevators.
