Ligonier Township supervisors Tuesday appointed retired township police chief Ron Dorazio as township assistant emergency management coordinator.
Dorazio will assist emergency management coordinator John Beaufort and assume management responsibilities when Beaufort is unavailable.
"Ron expressed interest in the position, and because he has so much experience and knowledge of the area due to his background, we felt he was the best man for the job," township supervisor Tim Komar said.
In other business, supervisors approved April 24 as Dumpster Day, coinciding with Earth Day. The township will accept large, disposable items, such as appliances, 8 a.m. till noon at the Old Route 30 west site near the Loyalhanna Watershed.
Residents wishing to be placed on the dirt, fill, and wood chip list for 2010 should contact the township office. Residents will be notified when items will be delivered to their homes at no cost.
Supervisors accepted a property donation from Bernard and Sandra Harr. At the start of the proposed Loyalhanna hiking trail, the property will be developed into a trail head and picnic area. It will be surfaced and landscaped in the spring.
