New football coaches have been hiring assistants during the past few months.
A local assistant with a familiar name is probably hoping his proteges don't have too much work to do.
Former Steeler and current talk show host Josh Miller will be coaching punters and special teams at Fox Chapel under new Foxes head coach Eric Ravotti, a former linebacker for Freeport, Penn State and the Steelers.
Miller shares hosting duties with Pittsburgh Tribune-Review columnist Joe Starkey and John Seibel from 2 to 6 p.m. on 93.7 "The Fan."
Miller and Fox Chapel fans, naturally, would prefer to see the Foxes move consistently well on offense and hope the punter won't have to be used.
Other assistants to Ravotti include holdovers from former coach Bryan Deal's regime.
They include quarterbacks coach John Aitken, line coach Brandon Peifer, linebackers coach John McGee and assistant head coach Josh Duso.
Other Foxes assistants are defensive coordinator Jack Neff, who moved over from Woodland Hills; wide receivers and former Guyasuta youth league coach Ken Schultz; and running backs coach Joel DeBaldo, formerly with Shady Side Academy.
Here are how other new staffs will stack up:
» At Burrell, first-year coach Kevin Horwatt will welcome a veteran staff that includes defensive coordinator Bryan Mike and Chip Moyes. John Tomicek will handle both lines.
Jim Klein and Rob Kelly will instruct outside linebackers and offensive linemen. Gene Collodi, who has more than 40 years of coaching experience, will handle the inside linebackers and offensive line, helped by Brian Horwatt and Walt Chambers.
Larry York and Brian Landowski will be the secondary and receivers coach, respectively. Former coach Tom Henderson will work with quarterbacks; Rich Napierkowski assists the defensive line and wide receivers.
» At Leechburg, new coach Mark George has added former coach Mark Jones as an assistant.
Chris Kulick will be in charge of the exterior offensive and defensive lines, and Alvie Eshelman the interior lines.
Jerry Bish will handle running backs and defensive backs, Luke Duriancik receivers, defensive backs and conditioning, Marty Hamm running backs and linebackers, and Albert Young fullbacks and linebackers.
» At Valley, new coach/athletic director Mark Kaczanowicz has brought back one of the area's most popular assistant coaches. Defensive coordinator Billy McGregor has more than 30 years of coaching experience. Jimmy Collins will be the offensive coordinator for the Vikings.
Former Burrell and Pitt standout John Brown Sr. will coach the receivers and outside linebackers, and fellow Pitt alumnus Lorenzo Freeman will handle the defensive line.
Ron Balla will be in charge of running backs and defensive backs.
At Apollo-Ridge, new coach John Skiba welcomes former Fox Chapel assistant Dave Leasure as defensive coordinator.
Ed Shaffer, with over 30 years on the Vikings staff, returns after a one-year absence. Bruce Yard will handle the secondary and receivers and Adam Ross the running backs and secondary, including the hero and rover positions.
Jeff Zelonka, brother of incumbent quarterback Josh, will be the junior varsity coach along with the quarterbacks and secondary coach.
Danny Leadlein will be special teams coach.
