Foundation receives education designation

The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County has been designated an educational improvement organization for the state's education improvement tax program.

The designation by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development is required for public school districts to participate in the program.

Currently Derry Area, Franklin Regional, Greater Latrobe, Greensburg Salem and Mt. Pleasant school districts have offered the tax credit program. The donations as passed through the non-profit educational improvement organization.

The program allows businesses to make donations that will allow public school districts to create educational programs they would not otherwise be able to afford.
