Four men were arrested in North London Friday under Britain's anti-terrorism laws.
Police raided three addresses in the boroughs of Finchley and Barnet, and took the men to London's high security Paddington Green police station for questioning, the BBC reported.
Armed police carried out the raids early Friday morning as part of a long-running operation involving MI5, believed to be targeting an Iranian dissident group.
However officers did not reveal the nationality of the men, known only to be aged 31, 37, 58 and 63.
They stressed the men were not connected to al-Qaida, nor were they planning attacks on Britain, but suggested they may be linked to terrorist activities in the Middle East.
Two of the men were arrested in a vehicle on Barnet's High Road.
An eyewitness reported seeing 20 or 30 armed police surrounding the vehicle.
Police are continuing to search the addresses that were raided.
