The Fox Chapel and Kittanning hockey teams were awarded for their outstanding regular seasons with top seeds and first-round byes in the PIHL Penguins Cup playoffs.

Class AAA Fox Chapel (18-2) and Class A Kittanning (20-1) will host second-round games Wednesday — Fox Chapel at Valley Sports Complex, and Kittanning at Belmont Ice Complex.

Plum (7-11-2), one of 13 teams in the Class AAA tournament, will play a preliminary-round game at 8:45 p.m. today against Mt. Lebanon (7-11-2) at Rostraver Ice Garden. That game will follow the Open Class final between Kiski Area and John Marshall.

The Plum-Mt. Lebanon winner will play North Allegheny (12-6-2) at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at BladeRunners Ice Complex in Warrendale.

Class A No. 9 seed Freeport (7-13-1) will play No. 8 Central Valley (7-13-1) at 7 p.m. Monday at Beaver County Ice Arena.

In the first two rounds, the higher-seeded team serves as host. The quarterfinals (March 14-15) and finals (March 20) will be at Consol Energy Center.

For the first time, the PIHL has paired with Pointstreak to bring fans live scoring on each playoff game. There is a link to Pointstreak at www.pihlweb.com.

The Penguins purchased the stat-providing program for the PIHL.
