Aspinwall VFD marks 125 years with parade, pig roast
Tickets still are available for tomorrow’s parade and pig roast to mark the 125th anniversary of the Aspinwall Volunteer Fire Department.
Fire Fest will kick off with a parade at 1:30 p.m., followed by barbecue at 4 p.m. and a concert by popular local rockers Good Brother Earl at 5 p.m.
The parade begins at 2nd Street and Western Avenue and will travel along Second to Delafield, with many guest fire companies participating. Festivities will follow at the Aspinwall Recreational Area along Field Avenue.
A full ticket costs $25 at the gate; the pig roast only is $20.
The volunteer department officially celebrates the 125 year milestone on Sept. 28, having drawn a membership of nearly 120 volunteers at its peak.
Currently, there are about 40 trained men and women of all ages who serve as emergency first responders. The fire department also has live-in and junior programs.
The group responded to about 500 calls last year.
