NBC and Fox News Channel came out on top in Tuesday's election night ratings race, The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.
The paper said NBC was the top network for the evening, averaging 15.2 million in prime time for its live coverage of the election returns. Fox News beat the cable competition by scoring its highest prime time rating ever -- an average audience of 8.1 million viewers.
According to the report, Nielsen Media Research estimated 55.1 million viewers tuned in to election coverage on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News Channel, CNN and MSNBC.
