The Fox network is abandoning original programming on Friday nights for the rest of its U.S. season due to poor ratings.

Beginning April 15, Fox Fridays will feature movies, including a couple of "broadcast-net" premieres, through the end of the season, Zap2it.com said Thursday.

"The Bernie Mac Show," currently the only first-run show in the Friday lineup, will end its season this week after an abbreviated run of 12 episodes.

The show averaged only about 5 million viewers this season, with recent episodes typically drawing just 4 million people. Drama "Jonny Zero" also struggled, averaging only 3.6 million people per week before cancellation.

Fox will show "Mr. Deeds" with Adam Sandler April 15, with broadcast premieres of "Maid in Manhattan" April 22 and "Shallow Hal" May 20.
