France expressed support Friday for an international inquiry into the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. “We appreciate the work of the U.N. fact-finding mission and noted that it recommended the formation of an independent international investigation team to find the truth … France supports that suggestion.” He said France will discuss the report with partners on the Security Council to decide the next move. Asked to comment on the withdrawal of Syrian forces and intelligence personnel from Lebanon, he said: “We want a clear timetable for the pullout.” The U.N. report released Thursday blamed no single entity for Hariri’s Feb. 14 killing, but was heavily critical of both Lebanon and Syria, and recommended “an international independent investigation” to find the truth. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
