Frank Langella has joined the cast of "Superman Returns" as Daily Planet editor Perry White, Daily Variety said Tuesday.

Langella is replacing Hugh Laurie, whose Fox TV series "House" was unexpectedly picked up for a second season, forcing Laurie to leave "Superman Returns." Laurie reportedly had not yet shot any scenes in the "Superman" movie.

"Superman Returns" is being directed by Bryan Singer, who is also a producer on "House." "Superman Returns" stars Brandon Routh in the title role, along with Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor and Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane.
