PERRYOPOLIS – Frazier School Board took no action Thursday night to add a rider to its insurance policy covering terrorist acts for the remainder of the 2003 school year.

During the work session prior to Thursday’s regular meeting, business manager Thomas Shetterly told the board that ACE, the district’s insurance broker, sent notice of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act of 2002, which allows school districts to purchase insurance to cover acts of terrorism recognized by the attorney general or the secretary of the treasury.

Shetterly said that the coverage would last through June 30 and cost $992.

He said the terrorism coverage will be automatically included in next school year’s policy.

Board President John Lowery III asked if any board members thought coverage would be necessary.

No one responded. The matter was not discussed during the regular meeting.

Frazier may receive money from overpaid utility bills dating back 10 years.

The Intermediate Unit 1 has entered into a consortium, the Utility Cost Cutters Program, which will, at no cost, audit all utility and telephone bills paid by the district. The program will keep 40 percent of any overpayment refunds and the district will receive 60 percent.

The board voted to renew the athletic trainer’s contract between the district and California University of Pennsylvania for the 2003-2004 school year at $9,000. The cost increased $500 from this year, but Shetterly said the cost still remains less than half what other organizations charge for the services.

Lowery has selected the standing committees:

  • Buildings, grounds and maintenance chairwoman, Kathy Burkholder

  • Transportation chairman, John Boone

  • Cafeteria chairman ,Dave Simmons

  • Athletics chairman, John Sterdis

  • Policy chairman, John Sterdis

  • Personnel chairman, John Keffer

  • Legislative chairman, John Keffer

  • Education chairman, Bill Vargo

The board accepted the resignation of Dorothy J. Swinker, assistant band director.
