A former Star Junction man died Thursday following a multi-vehicle crash in New Jersey.

Michael J. Davies of Hanover Township, Westmoreland County, was killed when he lost control of his car while driving on Route 80 in Mount Olive, Morris County, N.J., during rush hour around 6 a.m.

According to state police in Morris County, Davies' car crossed the grass median and into the eastbound lanes and struck a car driven by Paul T. Miller.

Davies' Honda was then struck by a truck driven by Michael Brooks, of Pennsylvania. The impact caused four other vehicles to be involved in the crash, causing backups on the highway that stretched for miles. Traffic was delayed until mid-afternoon.

One of the drivers involved in the crash, Johnie Beneteau, 30, of Ontario, Canada, who was operating a tractor-trailer was charged with DUI.

Davies was pronounced dead at the scene, state police reported.

Davies is a 1994 graduate of Frazier High School and the son of Thomas J. Davies of, Hanover Township, and Patricia J. Letazic Davies, of Star Junction.
