Frazier hires football coach

The Frazier School Board approved Michael Steeber as Frazier High School's new football coach via an 8-0 vote Friday.

"It's a good opportunity," Steeber said. "I'm real excited to get the chance to be the head coach at Frazier."

Steeber, 32, is replacing Lew Sweitzer, who resigned in May after coaching the team for the past five seasons.

Steeber certainly isn't new to the Frazier football program or Frazier High School.

Steeber is a robotics and physics teacher at the school, and he spent three seasons as an assistant coach under Sweitzer, serving as the Commodores' defensive coordinator. Steeber also served as the school's athletic director from 2005-07.

Last season, Steeber worked as a linebackers and tight ends coach at Belle Vernon under coach Aaron Krepps.

"Mike brought a lot to our football team," Krepps said. "It's a big loss for us, and Frazier probably couldn't have picked a better guy to lead the team into the future. He is an all-around good guy."

Frazier athletic director Tom Shetterly is happy to have Steeber back in the Frazier football family.

"Mike has been an assistant coach with us in the past, and we welcome him back," Shetterly said.

Frazier opens the season with a home game Sept. 3 against Beth-Center.
