Freedom rout Wild Things

The East Division-leading Washington Wild Things were defeated by the Florence Freedom, 15-7, at Champion Window Field on Wednesday night.

Wild Things left-handed starting pitcher Alan Stidfole lasted just 3 1/3 innings. He gave up eight runs and 10 hits. Florence (34-48) scored seven runs in the fourth inning.

After falling behind, 11-1, in the sixth inning, Wild Things center fielder Chris Sidick hit a solo home run, his ninth of the year. Robbie Knapp added an RBI single, and four consecutive walks cut the margin to 11-4.

Florence got the runs back in the bottom of the sixth. Beau Blacken hit a grand slam off Cory Hahn.

Right fielder Rob Vernon went 2 for 5 with two runs and an RBI. Left fielder Matt Sutton had a two-run home run late in the game for the Wild Things.

The Wild Things (41-30) will try to rebound tomorrow at Chillicothe in a 7:05 p.m. start.

Sliders 7, Paints 3

Slippery Rock (19-52) bounced back from a Tuesday loss and defeated Chillicothe (35-37) at V.A. Memorial Stadium Wednesday night.

Slippery Rock plays Florence at 7:05 tonight.
