Freeport Road a mess
Re., the article, “Officials seek parking solution (June 7 and TribLive) about Freeport Road in New Kensington: What wasn't mentioned is the street isn't wide enough for two-way traffic now.
Parking partially on the sidewalk, my car has been hit twice in the past year, knocking off my driver-side mirror both times. I also had front-end damage the second time.
My neighbor had his mirror knocked off a month ago. Recently, a truck that should not have been on McCargo Street in the first place turned onto Freeport. The truck took out the stop sign and nearly totalled a resident's car despite being parked partially on sidewalk.
The 200, 300 and 400 blocks of Freeport Road are absolutely terrible.
I now park completely on the sidewalk — I need to protect my vehicle. There's a huge empty lot in the 200 block. The city should buy it, pave it and make it a free lot for the residents. Many buildings — mine included don't have a driveway. Street parking is our only option.
If the city outlaws sidewalk parking, McCargo will be overrun with cars from Freeport.
The city should consider making the blocks from 200 to 400 one way. People could park on the street; problem solved.
One more problem: The speed limit here is 25 mph but people do 50 mph-plus from McCargo to Seventh Street.
It's just a mess, period.
