While visiting Western Pennsylvania from my home in Alabama for Thanksgiving, I was in an accident Nov. 27 on Route 219 in Westmoreland County just outside Derry.

I would like to extend my thanks to all those who stopped to help and/or were patient with the inconvenience they may have experienced -- those I remember by name and those who just stopped because they cared and wanted to help.

Trooper Lanham -- who responded -- was a tribute to the Pennsylvania State Police; the EMTs were sharp and on point; the medical personnel at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital emergency room were excellent; the wonderful man who was behind me and stopped to direct traffic and offer me comfort (even though he was on his way to work) was truly an angel; the off-duty paramedic was tremendous; and the patient travelers inconvenienced by the incident were noteworthy.

Also, to the young man who was in the accident with me -- God bless, and I'm just happy we both walked away to enjoy Christmas with our families!

Thanks to you all. That day I truly did have friends in Pennsylvania!
