Exploding frying pans sold on the Home Shopping Network are being recalled by the manufacturer, Innova Inc., of Davenport, Iowa.

The Ultrex Thermal/Double Wall frying pans can explode or separate when preheated, used on high heat or for frying. The company received 16 complaints of the cookware exploding. Two consumers suffered burns from hot oil and eight reported property damage, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Innova is recalling about 8,700 pans, including an 8-inch omelet pan with handle and lid, an 8-inch frying pan with handle and lid, a 9 1/2- inch frying pan with buffet handles and lid and an 11 1/2-inch deep chicken fryer. The pans are made of stainless steel with a black, nonstick coating inside. The bottoms are engraved with "Designed in the USA, Gourmet Quality, Ultrex Double Wall, Stainless Steel, Innova Inc., Davenport, IA."

The Home Shopping Network sold the pans during October 2001 through September 2002 for $20 to $50 per pan or $150 to $300 for a set.

Innova advised consumers to stop using the frying pans immediately. For more information consumers may call Innova 800-845-7447 during business hours, or to view a picture of the recalled items visit www.cpsc.gov.
