Greg Pittman has resigned as head coach of the Gateway varsity boys soccer team.

Gateway athletic director Terry Smith confirmed Pittman's resignation as well as the resignation of assistant coach Joe Field, both for personal reasons, Friday morning.

Pittman confirmed he has stepped down but didn't wish to comment further.

Smith said Kevin Sanders, facilities site manager/inventory control at Gateway High School, will serve as the head coach for the remainder of the season.

Sanders has extensive experience coaching soccer at various youth levels, Smith said.

The Gators are 3-7-1 overall this season and 1-6-1 in Section 3-AAA play.

Pittman was in his ninth season as head coach of the Gators. In eight full seasons, through 2010, he compiled an 83-61-7 overall record and helped the 2005 and '09 Gators teams qualify for the WPIAL playoffs.
