An alligator with a taste for Zaxby's spicy chicken grabbed boxed lunches from a group at Lake Alice on the University of Florida campus and "went crazy."

"We've been there before and we know to watch for alligators -- we grew up here," Garrett Bell told the Gainesville (Fla.) Sun of the "bizarre" Sunday picnic involving two adults, four children and a dog.

"We were watching him (the gator) get closer and closer, and then he kind of went away from us. All of a sudden he popped up, got on all four legs and crawled up the bank. We left boxes of chicken on the blanket and he went crazy."

The 6- to 8-foot gator came ashore twice to devour the chicken.

Bell said she did not report the incident to police, knowing that a gator that size would be caught and killed.
