Seven hundred gays and lesbians are arriving in Copenhagen for the gay World Cup, which kicks off Sunday under the motto "come out and play." The event, which is being organized by the International Gay and Lesbian Football Association, has previously taken place in a number of cities with vibrant homosexual scenes such Boston, London and Sydney. This is the first time the Danish capital is hosting the gay World Cup and city authorities have thrown their weight behind the event. Financial and moral support from the Copenhagen city council was crucial in getting the World Cup to the city, organizers said Thursday. The World Cup has more to it than soccer matches. Numerous events and post-match parties have been lined up for participants, including an opening reception at City Hall and a closing party at trendy nightclub Vega. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
