Get fit and tan

The New Breed Gym and Tanning facility has opened.

The facility, which is under new management and has been remodeled, is located on South Pittsburgh Street.

"Everything here has been redone, and we have added a lot of new equipment," said new owner Colin Gnibus. "Our big goal is to appeal to those who want to work out, and to offer them a place to go that offers a comfortable and safe and clean environment."

The main floor features the gym area, featuring free weights, lifting equipment, mats and benches, with partial mirrored walls for those who wish to work on technique.

The lower level features a fitness area designed for workout equipment that offers aerobic benefits such as steppers, stationary bikes, treadmills and a rowing machine.

"I wanted to have a place to offer women who want to workout in a nice facility that offers the type of equipment that they like and in a place where they can feel safe," Gnibus said. "One of our goals is to be able to appeal to a wide variety of people."

One unique aspect of the facility, and one that Gnibus is pleased to offer, is 24-hour use of equipment.

"This is especially convenient for women who may like to workout but who have difficulty fitting gym time into their busy schedules," Gnibus said. "They can come in at 10 or 11 p.m. if they choose to and work out on the machines."

The gym is open seven days a week and is accessed with a member's drivers license.

"I like the area and the location, and a lot of good people come here," said Bill "Monk" Shawley, of Dawson.

Shawley was a former member and likes what the new owners have done.

"I like the way that they fixed the place up," Shawley said. "The remodeling made a 100 percent difference."

The lower level also includes tanning areas.

"They came highly recommended," said Dawn Smith, of Connellsville. "I work at Martin's, and everyone there tans here. The beds are beautiful and clean ,and the service is great."

The Sportarredo standup beds feature 160-amp bulbs and are equipped with set timing programs. The beds offer customers a shade of tan in 10 minutes.

"The standup beds are perfect for someone who doesn't want to spend a lot of time on tanning but still achieve optimal results," Gnibus said.

The lay-down beds are top-of-the-line Wolff beds and feature face tanners that can be set on or off if the clients do not wish for the face to receive tanning.

"The beds are cleaned and reset between each session," Gnibus said.

Also offered at the new facility is a spray-on tanning unit. The attendant covers the clients in a spray-on tan that lasts for up to two weeks after application.

A full line of tanning supplies and aftercare products is offered. The area is decorated in a beach motif.

"We worked on creating a tropical look," Gnibus said.

The tanning facilities are open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 24-hour access is for gym facilities only.

"We have a great amount of quality in our gym, our tanning and in our tanning supplies," Gnibus said,. "I want to bring value to my customers across the board. I feel that we are more than just a normal gym, and there is nothing like us in Connellsville. No one compares to us in value."
