Gilpin income 'in the ballpark' so far in 2011

Gilpin officials said income to the township so far this year is "in the ballpark" as they look toward next year's budget with hopes to hold the line on taxes.

Supervisor Dennis Wolfe, budget committee chairman, said he wants to keep the township's property tax rate at 6.25 mills.

So far this year, the township has collected about $416,000 in total tax income, just shy of the anticipated $431,000. It's a figure that Wolfe says is "in the ballpark" to helping the township hit its budget marks for 2011.

The township's property tax collection to date of $257,515 is ahead of the $244,600 that had been budgeted for the year. Supervisors estimated the township will collect $250,600 in 2012.

Wolfe said he is hoping the township's earned income tax collection will increase with the change to a single county-wide collector next year.

The township budgeted to collected about $172,000 this year, and so far has been paid about $145,000.

But to be safe, supervisors didn't change how much earned income tax the township is expected to collect next year.

The township spends about $600,000 a year from its general fund.

The income picture for next year was incomplete at Tuesday's budget meeting, and supervisors did not discuss spending.

Supervisors are scheduled to adopt a preliminary budget Nov. 14. The final budget will be voted on at the year-end meeting on Dec. 27.
