Girl, 2, drowns in Franklin Park pool

Police are investigating after a 2-year-old Homestead girl apparently drowned in her grandfather's Franklin Park swimming pool last night, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said.

Kerstin Perez was unresponsive when emergency responders were called to the 2400 block of Bellwood Court around 9:30 p.m., the medical examiner's office said. She was taken to UPMC Passavant, where she was declared dead shortly after 10 p.m.

An autopsy is scheduled for later today. Franklin Park police are investigating the incident and are treating it as an accidental drowning, according to the medical examiner's office, but could not be reached for comment.
