Girl sets off alarm, saves man miles away
A toddler who accidentally set off a panic alarm at her great-grandmother's house in Florida may have saved the life of a Michigan man.
Olivia Luke's great-grandparents formerly lived in the house in Clay Township, Mich. They took the panic alarm with them when they moved to Florida but forgot the change the address, WDIV-TV in Detroit reports.
So when police learned of the alarm, they went to the old address and woke the new owner, Jim Maple, from a sound sleep.
It turned out that Maple had reason to panic. The police officers smelled natural gas, so they called the fire department and the gas company, which found a leaking gas fireplace.
Maple says he plans a reward for Olivia on her second birthday next month.
