Girls track team celebrates season
The Ligonier Valley High School girls track and field team gathered at Weller Field for the annual awards ceremony. Head Coach Albert Fiorina presented the championship plaque for an undefeated Heritage Conference season. The team members were also awarded Heritage Conference championship patches.
The 1600m relay team consisting of Jasmine Connor, Miranda Campbell, Madi McLaughlin and Stephanie Heming were recognized for being undefeated in conference competition and for their outstanding performance. The 1600m relay team along with Michaela Long achieved Heritage Conference All-Conference status and where given an all-conference patch and certificate.
Varsity letters were awarded to Megan Crowley, Brittany Crowley, Long, Campbell, Kelleigh Huber, Gina McKlveen, Heming, Ashley Smith, Emily Ulery, Amanda Ross, Elizabeth Schellhammer, Phebe Cornell, Nikki Davis, McLaughlin, Zoe Bergman, Connor, Becca Kromel, Bethanie Meharey, Molly Horrell and Hannah Patrick.
Huber, Long, Brittany Crowley and Megan Crowley were presented with four-year team member plaques. McLaughlin was named track Rookie of the Year and Kromel received the field Rookie of the Year award. The most improved athlete and the most improved field athlete went to Phebe Cornell and Emily Ulery respectively. Connor and Campbell earned the coaches award plaque. Heming, McKlveen and Smith were all recognized with the intensity award and Long received the outstanding senior athlete award.
The festivities concluded with Fiorina thanking the team and parents. He also commended his assistant coaches' Trish Hammill-Majhan, Dale Show and Jim Dumas for their unselfish contribution of time and expertise to the team.
