A Glassport homicide suspect on the run from authorities fatally shot himself in the head in a West Virginia hotel room with Allegheny County sheriff’s deputies at the door, officials said Wednesday.

Davven Eric Malloy, 20, shot himself Monday night at the Microtel Inn & Suites in Westover, a suburb of Morgantown, according to Allegheny County Sheriff Bill Mullen and a statement released by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.

The West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office determined Malloy died from a single bullet wound in the head from a 9mm pistol, and the manner of death was suicide, according to the Monongalia sheriff’s statement.

“He killed himself while (deputies) were outside the room,” Mullen said.

Mullen’s office considered Malloy one of its most-wanted fugitives. Malloy was accused of killing Melvin Harper, 26, on Sept. 17 outside a New Castle bar.

Mullen said Monongalia County sheriff’s deputies accompanied his deputies to the hotel after they got a tip Malloy or an acquaintance could be there. Deputies in the fugitive squad, headed by Lt. Jack Kearney, knocked on the door and identified themselves as police.

Malloy kicked out a window screen, but a deputy was outside, the sheriff’s offices said.

Seconds later, the officers heard a gunshot. They entered the room and found Malloy on the bed with a head wound. Police found a brick of heroin and a note in his pocket, officials said.

Two other men and a woman were in the room, Mullen said.
