Slippery Rock University ended a three-game losing streak Saturday, thanks mainly to Dorrian Glenn.
Glenn, a former Sto-Rox star, rushed for a school-record 335 yards on 38 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead the visiting Pride to a 37-27 victory over California (Pa.) in an NCAA Division II Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division game.
Glenn's performance broke Slippery Rock's single-game rushing record set by Lamonte Coleman, who had 306 yards against Edinboro in 1993. Glenn scored on runs of 8, 70, 42 and 1 yard.
'He just took over the football game and dominated the game,' Slippery Rock coach George Mihalik said. 'He's a senior, and he knew he had to step up and make something happen. Right from the first play, Dorrian ran with great vision. He makes super cutbacks and has tremendous breakaway speed.'
Slippery Rock (3-3, 1-3) led 24-7 at halftime lead, sparked by two Glenn touchdown runs. Glenn's effort spoiled a record-breaking day by California running back Wesley Cates, who had 166 yards on 29 carries and scored three touchdowns for the Vulcans.
Cates broke PSAC career records with 56 touchdowns and 338 points. Irv Sigler of Bloomsburg scored 55 touchdowns from 1994-97. Steve Witte of Clarion had 332 points from 1992-96.
Cates scored on runs of 1, 1 and 3 yards for California (4-2, 1-2), which lost its second consecutive game.
