Goalie Fleury takes seat in return to Pens
Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury did not start Tuesday night against Buffalo at Mellon Arena, even though he did not play for Canada during the Vancouver Olympics.
Resting Fleury was coach Dan Bylsma's original plan, though Fleury showing up 10 minutes late for practice made it an easy call. Fleury was one of many players who had trouble reaching the morning practice session because of heavy traffic congestion.
» Newly acquired defenseman Jordan Leopold was paired with Alex Goligoski against Buffalo. The Penguins' other defense pairings were Sergei Gonchar-Mark Eaton and Brooks Orpik-Kris Letang. Jay McKee and Martin Skoula were the odd defensemen out of the six-man rotation.
» Aaron Placke (Bethel Park), Alex Mueller (Hampton), Anthony Maroadi (Norwin) and Drew Finton (Meadville Area) received recognition as the February recipients of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League Players of the Month. The Penguins and corporate partner Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield honor high school hockey players four times annually during the season.
» The Penguins' franchise-record sellout streak is at 150 games. The steak extends to late in the 2006-07 season. The season-ticket waiting list for Consol Energy Center, scheduled to open for the start of next season, is at 3,600 members. That translates to about 8,000 seats.
» FSN Pittsburgh will broadcast the Penguins-Rangers game at New York on Thursday even though it will air on Versus in markets outside of Pittsburgh. The broadcast will be preceded by "Penguins FACEOFF," which is presented by Trib Total Media.
