A Detroit gas station customer who found the clerk passed out summoned help, then stole money from the open register.

The Speedway clerk had collapsed from an unknown medical emergency, WDIV-TV, Detroit, reported Friday.

"A good Samaritan had come in, found the clerk lying face down behind the cash register area and had called 911," Detective Neil Childs said.

But the Samaritan saw the register was open and apparently couldn't resist the temptation to give himself a reward.

The gas station's security camera recorded the customer snatching $70 and heading out the door.

The clerk's condition was not known.
