Grab lunch, or a treat, while supporting Westmoreland museum

The newly renovated and expanded Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg houses more than just fine art; it also offers artisanal sandwiches, soups, wraps and desserts from The Supper Club.

The farm-to-table restaurant in the Greensburg train station opened a cafe cart in December at the museum but didn’t have the official grand opening until last month.

Since then, Valerie Casper, who runs the cart, says business has been brisk. She says customers include teachers from the middle school across the street, museum patrons and people who walk up the hill from businesses farther down Main Street.

The items for the cart are packaged each morning at the restaurant and brought to the museum. So, there are no special orders. The variety is good for such a small establishment, but you may want to get there early — they open at 11:30 a.m. — to get your favorites.

The salads — Harvest with grilled chicken breast; Fresh Veggie Cous Cous-Quinoa; and Wild Rice, Dried Fruit and Feta Cheese — have been popular, Casper says. They are available for $3 for small and $5.75 for large. The Harvest also comes in an entree size for $6.75. Or, you can get a sampling of all three for $6.75.

Other entrees include quiche, grilled vegetable wrap, roast turkey sandwich and the restaurant’s signature chicken salad sandwich with red grapes, toasted pecans, light mayonnaise, mixed greens and sliced tomato on fresh-baked bread. Each is $6.75, or you can pay the same price and get half a sandwich or wrap with a cup of soup, side salad or bag of chips.

The soup du jour uses seasonal fare, such as the acorn squash bisque ($3 to $4). There’s also a mac and cheese du jour ($5).

A flourless chocolate cake was a tasty dessert option. Other choices include cookies, muffins, scones and other pastries ($1.50 to $2).

For an extra treat, have one of the sodas from Natrona Bottling Co. in Natrona Heights.

You don’t have to pay admission to visit the cart.

The Westmoreland Museum Cafe, which is in the museum’s lobby at 221 N. Main St., Greensburg, is open only for lunch, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Details: supperclubgreensburg.com
