A kung-fu hero's grandson is taking legal action to stop further showings of the hit movie "Fearless" as it allegedly damages his family's reputation.
Huo Shoujin, 81, grandson of martial arts hero Huo Yuanjia, filed the case at Beijing's Haidian District People's Court on Tuesday. He is demanding a written public apology from the producer, the government-controlled China Film Group Corp., and the distributor, Hong Kong-based Edko Films, according to his lawyer, Yang Zhongkai.
Yang told Chinese media that Jet Li, who plays Huo in the movie and is one of the investors in the film, also might be accused during the case.
"The film says Huo Yuanjia picked fights, enrolled debauched students and caused trouble that led to the death of his mother and daughter, and as a result he has no descendants. This is not true," Yang said.
Huo Zizheng, another descendant of Huo Yuanjia's, said, "If you make a movie based on a real person, you can't get away by saying it's a fictitious story. We are also angry that the movie says Huo has no descendants. In fact, he has 11 grandsons."
