The Allegheny River Towns Enterprise Zone, a community economic development organization, pulled in grants from Allegheny County and the Heinz Endowments and hired a director.

The organization, which received $200,000 from Heinz Endowments and $150,000 from the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County, hired Iris Whitworth as the organization’s executive director. Whitworth is a project manager for the Allegheny County Department of Economic Development.

The organization formed in 2005 and is made up of seven municipalities along the southern portion of the Allegheny River: Millvale, Etna, Sharpsburg, Blawnox, Aspinwall, O’Hara and Shaler.
