A Green Tree company was placed on probation for one year and ordered to pay a $40,000 fine by a federal judge for shipping graphite products with potential nuclear and military implications to the United Arab Emirates.

Prosecutors said SparesGlobal Inc. conspired with others to falsify shipping documents and misled federal investigators when questioned about the shipments. SparesGlobal brokers transactions between U.S. companies and others abroad.

The products they shipped to U.A.E. had "dual purpose" capabilities, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, meaning they had both commercial and military uses. The graphite materials could be used in nuclear reactors and in missile nose cones. The materials were eventually tracked down in Pakistan.
